PLACEMENT AT ESSENDON PRIMARY
Essendon Primary was where I completed my 'Diverse Placement'. I chose Essendon as I wanted to experience what a metropolitan school was like, this was due to the fact that I come from the country and was previously only familiar with smaller sized schools. Essendon Primary provided me with the opportunity to teach students from a range of different cultural backgrounds and made me aware of how I could use students different backgrounds to enhance teaching and learning.
While on placement at Essendon Primary I got a taste to what life would be like as a full time teacher. Some of the experiences that helped me in this included:
*Taking on the role of classroom teacher and teaching full days for the last two weeks of my three week placement *Using a wide variety of assessment types including running records, on demand testing, oral presentations, portfolios and checklists *Planning alongside the 3/4 team *Teaching a variety of lessons including English, Maths, Inquiry, History and Library *Assisting with the grade 3/4 cake stall along with parents after school *Attending meetings and taking on yard duty *Witnessing the stress that teachers have to go through during exams (especially as a first year teacher-this was due to some of the 3/4 team being first year out teachers) *Developing behaviour management strategies to keep students under control and on task |
